AI Tool Finds Cancer Signs Missed by Doctors!

AI tool named Mia has shown promising results in detecting signs of breast cancer that were missed by human radiologists. In a pilot study with over 10,000 women, Mia successfully flagged all cases with symptoms of breast cancer and identified an additional 11 cases that doctors had overlooked.

Trained on a dataset of over 6,000 breast cancer cases, Mia demonstrated 81.6% accuracy in predicting the presence of cancer and 72.9% accuracy in ruling it out. This breakthrough could lead to earlier detection and improved outcomes for patients, reducing the need for invasive treatments and minimizing side effects like lymphoedema.

Researchers are now working to further develop Mia to predict patients' risk of side effects post-treatment, allowing for personalized care plans. A clinical trial called Pre-Act will validate the AI system's risk prediction model over a two-year follow-up period, with the ultimate goal of creating an AI tool that can comprehensively assess a patient's prognosis and treatment needs. This advancement has the potential to revolutionize breast cancer care and improve patient outcomes.
